The focus will be pre-hunt planning/scouting/practice; how to find, stalk, and kill elk; and how to track, process, pack out, and care for meat after the shot. We'll do plenty of gear tune-up and shooting practice, in the field, at realistic ranges, angles, and positions. The location will be in Idaho's Rocky Mountains, on thousands of acres of private land (legit elk country) where we will lodge, learn, and shoot to our heart's content in state-of-the-art hunting scenarios.

Required: Carry 20 lbs Hike 1-2 miles a day in moderate to challenging terrain.
Generally everything on the ranch is within walking distance. No special vehicle requirements.

Due to logistics of this event, course payments are non-refundable, but may be transferred to another individual.
To book this course we require 50% down if booked during the year of the event. After checking out we will then send you an email with a contract. The final 50% of the deposit is due a week before the course.
Joseph is the owner of Backcountry Hunting Podcast, which focuses on inspiring and teaching about deep-country hunting, with emphasis on DIY techniques, gear, prep, and how-to. Polish your shooting skills and enjoy some face-to-face instruction with Joseph.
Process Based Hunter is dedicated to teaching people about the outdoors. Tate Bradfield, the owner, has been hunting his entire life, and has been guiding and outfitting most of his adult life. He is an avid outdoorsman, guide, entrepreneur, conservationist, husband, and father.

3 Days
- Arrive the evening of the first day. Course registration between 4 and 6 pm. Dinner will be served.
- Days 1-3 will be spent in an outdoor classroom setting, in the field shooting and mastering rifles and gear, and practicing elk calling and learning how to hunt elk from start to finish.
- Depart the camp the last day between 2 - 4 pm.
- Ranch is near Preston, Idaho
- 2 hour drive from Salt Lake City airport
- Rental cars are available at the SLC airport (a sedan is adequate)
- We recommend carpooling with other attendees to save on cost.
For a significant portion of the course we will work out your hunting rifle.
Bring your own rifle and ammo so we can help you get a feel for what your specific rifle setup is capable of. Participants should come with 4 to 5 boxes of the ammunition you are planning on hunting with.
