Which Dates Should I Choose, How do I Get a Tag?
Each set of dates will come with its own set of plusses and minuses. Here is some info on each set of dates to help you make your decision. All tags are OTC but can be difficult to obtain so me and my team will obtain your tags for you.
- All dates from August 16-30 will be for spike bulls and cows in limited-entry elk hunting units. There is a much higher elk population in these units than in the regular general season units. So hunters on these dates will likely see legal elk every day. The bigger bulls generally won’t respond to calling as well during this time. However, spikes and cows tend to respond quite well to cow and calf calls. Tate has called in cows, spikes, and mature bulls during these dates.
- All dates from September 2 through October 19th will be in any bull units. Hunters who are archery hunting in these units are allowed to harvest any elk, cows, and bulls, regardless of size. During the later rifle hunts, hunters may harvest any bull, but only bulls. Hunts in these units can be very rewarding but tend to be challenging, even for the most experienced of hunters. Most hunters can expect to see elk every other day. A plus of this hunt is that you can kill any elk, and Tate has had some very respectable bulls come out of these units. If you can learn to hunt elk in these units, you can be successful anywhere.
